RFF is a movement to secure inclusion and affirmation for LGBTI people around the world by ending religious-based homophobia and transphobia.

What We Believe In

At Rainbow Faith & Freedom, we believe a person’s religious beliefs are part of their intersectional identity. RFF advocates for freedom of religion and freedom from religion. If religious-based homophobia is not directly confronted, the world will remain an unsafe space for LGBTI folks.

A religious problem requires a religious response. We believe decreasing and lessening the effects of religious-based LGBTI discrimination can, and will, make changing punitive laws easier and improve the lives of LBGTI people so they can be who they are, love who they want, and find safe and accepting places to practice their faith (worship).

How We Create Change

Rainbow Faith and Freedom is focused on three pillars of activity to address religious-based LGBTI discrimination.

Strategic Nation-Focused Programming

A strategic plan to reduce religious-based LGBTI discrimination in selected nations through targeted programming aligned with the Movement’s vision.

Faith-Based Resources

We create and use faith-based resources to promote acceptance and inclusiveness through the Movement.

Domestic Faith-Based Initiatives

To address religious-based 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination in Canada we plan to introduce a rating system to measure inclusion in local faith communities, along with resources to support improvement.

Our Learning Tools & Resources

We offer a comprehensive suite of resources designed to confront and dismantle religious-based discrimination against 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. These resources include faith-based educational materials, research reports, and multimedia content aimed at fostering inclusivity and understanding.

The “Worshipping With Love” project provides training modules for faith communities to become affirming and inclusive spaces. RFF’s “Community Map Portal” and & “Video Resource Portal” serve as accessible tools for individuals and communities to locate supportive environments and educational content.

These resources collectively empower both individuals and faith communities to actively engage in creating safer, more inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ people of faith.

Our Projects & Initiatives

  • Affirming Inclusion in Education

Ongoing research on religious-based homophobia and transphobia in faith-based education will guide the development of a program to support GSAs, instrumental organizations that make schools safer for 2SLGBTQ+ students and their allies.

  • 2SLGBTQ+ Safety in Senior Care

Ongoing research that examines the subtle but serious barriers in senior care faced by many 2SLGBTQ+ seniors will inform a program that helps staffs build the skills they need to create safer, more inclusive spaces for our community’s elders.

  • Worshipping With Love Program

Worshipping with Love" is a program that supports places of worship in their journey to become safer for 2SLGBTQ+ people and their allies.

“My faith is very important to me. After I came out, I was rejected by my community and never thought I would have a spiritual home again; I was devastated. But the people at Rainbow Faith and Freedom have empowered me to be the change I want to see in the world, and I’ve started showing others a new way to look at our faith. Now, instead of feeling alone in the world, I’ve found others who share my outlook and we’re building something beautiful - together.”
