This book is a collection of ethnographic research that focuses on cross-cultural diversity of gender and sexuality. The examples of sex/gender variance cross-culturally challenge our understanding of what is normal and natural, and positions individual identities as dynamic, affected by social and individual factors as well as prone to change over time. The focus on cultural difference emphasizes that “there is no one correct way to organize sex/gender categories or how to percieve sex/gender nonconformity”.
